The coins of the earlier times used to be die-struck
manually. Therefore, there were not created in the uniform design and shape.
Besides, in the earlier times, the coins used to be die-struck or cast in only
on one side. Thus, these were uniface and marks incused on the single side.
This is the reason why these are known as the punch mark coins. These types of
coins were available till 300 BC. Similarly, in the very beginning the notes
were also printed on one side. These notes were known as the Uniface notes.
Besides, earlier the notes were also available only in smaller sizes to save
the usage of paper. The bundle of these notes was available in available in 25 packs.
and not in the 100 pcs. like the present time.
